In
developing its KiOnutrime™ range of biopolymers,
KitoZyme's aim was to optimise their effects
on human and animal health. KiOnutrime™ biopolymers
can be used in food supplements and have the
following properties and effects:
- Absorb
and bond with fats (for use in slimming
products, cholesterol reducers, etc.)
KitoZyme's biopolymers are fibres
that can capture fatty acids in the stomach
and remove them by natural processes.
They can also bond with bile acids in
the intestine, ultimately resulting in
lower blood cholesterol.
-
Biodegradable and glucosamine precursor
(for use in painkillers for arthritis,
arthritis prevention, etc.)
KiOnutrime™ is a precursor of glucosamine, a
painkiller and anti-inflammatory
that helps prevent joint deterioration.
KiOnutrime™ releases the glucosamine
gradually, which means that doses
can be reduced and the patient's
comfort enhanced.
KitoZyme is
keen to verify and optimise other beneficial
health effects associated with KiOnutrime™ biopolymers,
such as their ability to increase satiety,
stimulate the immune system and so forth.
KitoZyme's
work is based on the following observations:
- Half medical
product, half food - food supplements
are becoming increasingly popular with
consumers, dieticians and doctors. People
are beginning to think consciously about
the links between their food and drink
on the one hand and health on the other.
Modern living standards and education
levels are also playing a part in the
development of preventive medicine.
- The ageing
of the population, the increase in
the cost of health care and the requirements
of self-medication are all positive
factors in the development of the
nutraceuticals market.
- We are seeing
a significant increase in the number
of overweight people. Obesity has become
a social phenomenon.
- The nutraceuticals
industry, aware of the growing potential,
is looking for safe, high-quality ingredients
derived from natural sources.
- Consumers
want to see scientific proof of the
claims made regarding food supplements.
They believe that they are too often
misled by so-called miracle products.
- We are
witnessing a growing and irreversible
trend towards the rejection of animal-based
ingredients. These include the ordinary
chitosan derived from crustacean shells,
which is a proven allergy trigger.
KiOnutrime™ is
a new solution for the nutraceuticals industry
- a traceable vegetal-based alternative of consistent
quality, derived from a renewable source, whose
effects have been objectively demonstrated in
performance studies.
